Pre-school Ballet Camp

Exploring Ballet, taught by Sally Hart, explores basic ballet techniques in a playful, creative environment. Students will hear stories of the ballets and dance in their own ballet costumes that the make. Materials for costume supplied and included in price.

Meet and Greet with Dr. Greg Marrow June 5

Come meet Dr. Greg Marrow running for the Democratic Nomination for House of Delegates at 6 p.m. Friday, June 5 at the White Hall Community Center. The 25 district encompasses Western Albemarle, Crozet, Afton and Greenwood.  This district spreads out to Waynesboro, Weyers Cave and Elkton.  It has been 14 years since a Democrat as run in this district and we hope to see everyone out there.  The Democratic Primary will be June 9th. Butterflies to be Released at Mint Springs June 6

To mark National Butterfly Awareness Day, Linda Marchman, a local butterfly breeder and owner of Social Butterflies, will present a short program about butterflies Saturday, June 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Mint Springs Valley Park and then will release live butterflies in the park.

The event is designed is to make people aware of the importance of butterflies as pollinators, to encourage people to plant butterfly gardens, and learn how to help butterflies increase their numbers through several simple gardening techniques. Victory Hill Church 50th Anniversary June 7

Victory Hill Church invites the community to join in the celebration of its 50th Anniversary
Sunday, July 7, 2009 at the church at 140 Patterson Mill Lane in Crozet. A morning service will be held at 10:30 a.m. and an afternoon service at 3 p.m. A fellowship dinner will be held at Open Door Outreach Center (the church’s old building) at 1447 McAllister Street in Crozet. Family and Friends Day at Mt. Salem Gospel Church June 14

Mt. Salem Gospel Church will host its annual Family and Friends Day with Bishop John Marshall and his church and choir from the Free Union Gospel Church in Gordonsville on Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. Food will be served on the grounds after morning service. All are welcome! Church services are on four Sundays a month; Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. followed by Praise and Worship Service at 11:30. The church is located at the intersection of Three Notch’d Road (Rt. 240) and Old Three Notch’d Road, near the water treatment plant.

CVFD Summerfest & Parade Set for June 27

Crozet Volunteer Fire Department will host a summer celebration at Crozet Fire Department June 27 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

There will be a Classic Car Show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Music will be provided by Chick Tragic & The Roosters (2 to 3 p.m.), The Morris Family (4 to 4:30 p.m.), Eliza Run (6 to 8 p.m.), and Ronnie Johnson (8 p.m.).

There will be bingo and games, free children’s games and face-painting, and food will be available.

The traditional town parade on Crozet Avenue will be held at 6 p.m. beginning at Claudius Crozet Park and ending at Crozet School.

There is no admission fee and parking at the firehouse is free.

Blood Drive at Crozet Elementary School June 10

A Jump Into Summer blood drive facilitated by Virginia Blood Services will be held at the Crozet Elementary School Wednesday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The community is warmly invited to attend. Free T-shirts will be provided, as well as free pizza and snacks. Each week this summer, three blood donors will be randomly selected by VBS to receive a $200 VISA gift card. SNP Hiking Program for Families With Children June 14

Shenandoah National Park will host a Hiking With Children seminar on Sunday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Massanutten Room at Big Meadows Lodge, mile 51.2 on Skyline Drive. Jeff Alt, author of A Walk for Sunshine and avid hiker, will describe how to share nature with children for a fun and safe outdoor adventure.

Alt has hiked the 2,100 mile length of the Appalachian Trail on his own. During the summer of 2007, with his wife and extended family, he carried his 21-month-old daughter on a 50-mile hike across a swath of Ireland. The Hiking With Children seminar is free but reservations are requested. There is a $15 per-car entrance fee to the park, good for seven days.

Alt will return for a repeat session of Hiking With Children Sunday, July 12. He will talk on The Basics of Family Camping, June 27-28 and July 18-19, and on the American Chestnut: Restoring Forest Majesty, Saturday, August 22.
