crozet-meadows-quad-elevExcavating equipment at The Meadows, an affordable housing project for the elderly on Rt. 240, heralds the construction of 38 new units there.

The $7.9 million project of the Piedmont Housing Alliance and Jordan Development Corporation will rehabilitate 28 existing apartments and construct the new units for very low-income and extremely low-income elderly residents. All units will be one-story and one-bedroom, combined in 13 quadplexes and 7 duplexes styled to resemble the existing units. All will meet Universal Design and EarthCraft accessibility and sustainability standards.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Monday, Oct. 5, at noon at the site at 5800 Meadows Drive in Crozet. Congressman Tom Perriello will attend.

Funding for the project was assembled from 14 agencies: the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, USDA’s Rural Development Agency, Virginia Housing Development Authority, Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Virginia Community Development Corporation, Albemarle County, Crozet Crossings Trust Fund, Perry Foundation, an anonymous donor, Jordan Development Corporation, Piedmont Housing Alliance, Community Energy Conservation Program, Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission Regional Housing Consortium, and Virginia National Bank.
