Enticingly touted by its organizers as “the social event of the season in Crozet,” the Party for the PARC, a fundraiser at King Family Vineyards Nov. 12 for Claudius Crozet Park’s planned pool dome, raised $51,000. That brings the two-year effort to make the pool a year-round swimming venue within $72,000 of its $400,000 goal.

“Honestly, $51,000 is tremendous,” said Ravi Respeto, one of the fundraiser’s planners. “We were hoping for $25,000. This makes you realize this is the community wanting this. It is exciting.”

“Nearly every local business donated something to the silent auction,” which included 125 items, she said. “We have real involvement from the business community. Basically, the whole event, every ingredient, was donated.”

Over 100 bottles of wine were donated by swim team parents (and each had to be worth at least $15, Respeto noted).

Auctioneer Larry Batton called the sale of vacations and sailing trips and tried to sell two cars. But there were no takers in that price range (bidding was started at $42,000).

“That remaining $72,000 can be achieved,” said Respeto. “We hope we can rally the community to give another 10,000 by the end of this year.” The $60,000 grant from the Perry Foundation has a matching requirement, she noted.

Checks can be sent to Claudius Crozet Park Pool Dome, P.O. Box 171, Crozet, VA 22932, or donations can be made online at www.crozetparkpool.com.
