First Place Overall: Crozet Independence Day Fireworks by Malcolm Andrews

The third annual Crozet Gazette Calendar Photo Contest brought in some of the best photographs yet. Fall and winter calendar slots were particularly competitive.

First place overall went to Malcolm Andrews for his photograph of the Crozet Independence Day fireworks show. Thomas Peele won second place for his dramatic photograph of Mirador in Greenwood. Third place went to Cassidy Girvin’s fall vista from the Afton overlook on I-64.

Many thanks to all who entered! Don’t forget to keep shooting for next year’s calendar, especially come spring.

  1. I love the idea of using local art to create this calendar each year. I must say, I’m a little thrown back seeing that some photographers entered 10+ photos into the contest when a 3 photo limit was placed on submission. I will certainly continue to submit my work each year but would love to see the playing field leveled a bit! If one person is able to submit their entire portfolio then no limit should be placed on number of submissions.

Thanks for putting this together each year! I look forward to seeing it ‘in person’!

    • Hi Tiffany,

You are totally right. There were a couple of people who entered more than the 3 limit rule. I think a few did not read the rules thoroughly this year since the limit was new this time. It probably wasn’t fair of us to include more than 3 of their photographs in the slideshow. We wanted entrants to self-edit a little more than last year, but maybe next time we will make the limit a little higher. My sincere apologies for not adhereing to our published rules, and thanks for speaking up.

And thanks for entering! Keep taking photographs all year long!

      Allie
