Election Sign Theft

The burnt fragment of their sign that was left on the Pesch family's driveway.

Two hand-painted Obama signs have been stolen from our yard on a quiet street near downtown Crozet. The first was taken the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend without a trace. A fellow Crozetian saw my wife’s tweet about the theft and generously made us a new homemade sign. That sign was then stolen just five days after it was posted, sometime between 8:30 and 11:30 p.m. on Friday, September 28.

This second sign was also gone, stakes and all, with the exception of a splintered, and partially burnt, fragment that was tossed on my driveway.

Then, the next evening, between 6 and 8 p.m., a plastic Romney sign appeared in its place.

As the saga has progressed from frustrating theft, to the disturbing evidence of vandalism and arson on my lawn, to immature insult, I have become increasingly disappointed that such behavior would go on in our dear hometown of Crozet.
