Crozet’s Valentine Swing Dance was held at the Field School on February 16.

The Crozet Community Association (CCA) thanks the community for their support and participation in the third annual Crozet Swing Dance on February 16 at the Field School. Because of your generous support we raised over $1,300 that was divided between the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD), the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad (WARS) and the Build Crozet Library campaign.

Many deserve thanks for their contributions to the dance’s success. Prime among them is the whole Salute To Swing band and their leader, Leo Mallek, who generously donated their time and amazing talents to make the dance possible. We also wish to thank our supervisor extraordinaire, Ann Mallek, who helped coordinate the event and donated several items, in addition to her time setting up, running the event, and announcing the raffle winners.

A special thanks to the Crozet Lions Club and their members who donated the water and soft drinks and then spent the evening serving them. We also want to thank Mary Rice, Scott Boven, and Kim Connolly who worked all Saturday morning setting up tables, stringing lights, and generally transforming the space into a wonderful place for listening and dancing.

Speaking of dancing, a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. McGibney of Scottsville, who braved the snowy weather in Scottsville to provide a free dance lesson to us all. New and old dancers alike appreciated their instruction.

Another big part of the event was the many donations from local vineyards, breweries, and businesses. Thanks to Glass House, King Family, Pollak, and White Hall vineyards for their donations to the event as well as raffle items. Also thank you to Starr Hill for its donation of raffle items and Blue Mountain Brewery for its generous donation of beer.

We also thank Dryer Vent Wizard of the Blue Ridge, the Claudius Crozet Park, and the County Parks and Recreation Department for their raffle donations. All the winners were thrilled!

The event wouldn’t have been complete without the wonderful baked goods and snacks donated by so many folks, too numerous to mention, some of whom dropped off items even though they couldn’t stay. And then there are the folks who sold raffle tickets, entry tickets, and generally offered help however it was needed, especially, Dawn Kidd, Krista Weih, Lisa Goehler, and Linda Girvin.

A special thank you to Todd Barnett and the Field School, for their donation of the use of the space and their tables and chairs. Without this donation and Salute To Swing’s generosity, we would not have raised a penny for BCL, CVFD, and WARS.

Thank you to those who stuck around after the event to help clean up, put away tables and chairs, and reset the gym! Special thanks go to Ms. Velma Fisher for cleaning and making things ready for the Field School’s school day on Monday.

Most of all, we thank you, our generous fellow Crozetians, for your attendance and support. We are looking forward to next year’s event with you!

One of the wonderful privileges of living in Crozet is how freely and generously so many give of their time, talents, and resources to make this event a success.
