Albemarle County police were tight-lipped and terse in announcing the death of a 10-year-old girl who they said was shot and killed by “a male juvenile” at the Open Door Ministry on McAllister Lane in Crozet around 10 a.m. May 21. Police public affairs officer Carter Johnson declined to identify those involved and would only say “We’re investigating” when asked any question, such as what type of gun used or whether policed regarded the death as accidental. The building houses an after school program for about 20 children who attend Crozet and Brownsville Elementary schools that is operated by Commonwealth Christian Community church (formerly Victory Hill Church of God) CCC pastor Paul Hollifield consoled grieving relatives as they arrived at the facility off St. George Avenue.
