Cub Scout Pack 79 celebrated the Boy Scouts of America’s 65th annual Pinewood Derby race Saturday, January 27.
Cub Scouts in kindergarten through fifth grade, along with many siblings, entered a total of 83 cars in this year’s race, which was run on the pack’s electronically timed metal racing track in the Henley Middle School cafeteria.
“The cars are getting faster every year, and it is getting harder and harder to make a car fast enough to win,” said pack leader Kyle Enfield.
The cars are 7 inches long and must weigh less than 5 ounces.
This year’s over all winner was Nicki Mills. Braden Little was runner-up and Gurmat Saini came in third.
Awards were also given to the top three speediest cars in each den, as well as several design awards for creative paint jobs and “fuel efficiency.”
