Hi
I read with interest your article about Greenwood. I am English and for a short time I left England and lived in Mirador House . I worked as a PA/Nanny to a Mr Scott who at the time owned Mirador this would have been 20 years ago, he owned an oil company. I adored Mirador and the beautiful countryside surrounding Mirador . I worked there for one year before returning to England and on my return took a great interest in the Langhornes. The area reminded me of Scotland and I truely fell in love with the beauty of the blue ridge mountains. Whilst at Mirador I attended a local baptist church.
I would like to know who the present owners of Mirador are and indeed if it is still Mr Scott, his children who I adored and missed very much when I returned to England were Meredith and William and lovely children they were. They will now be in their 20's.
If anyone who reads this can enlighten me regarding Mirador or if the church is still going I would be please to hear from them.

Comment on Piedmont Baptist Celebrates Resurrection from Fire Damage by Frank Calhoun

Congratulations and a blessed future to this Historic African-American Congregation. I had the opportunity to be invited to their 140th Anniversary Celebration and Worship Service by their late Elder Emeritus, Walter Washington, a service shortly before the tragic fire and his unexpected death after the fire. The members of Piedmont I met that day, and before,. supported me with love and compassion after a horrific auto crash in January 2011, and they continue to be the kindest neighbors I have ever had in the various areas where I have resided. Only after Walter's death did I learn of his fantastic career and accomplishments - including being an iconic vocalist/performer with black musical groups my family loved but never saw in person. Thus, I suggest the community and church establish a Walter Washington Music Scholarship Fund for future generations of Piedmont Baptist youth - obviously, Walter embellished his musical talents at Piedmont Baptist Church - long may youth there sing with everlasting joy!
ATT: Editor Mike - I was amazed to learn here of the role of Piedmont's Reverend Virgil Wood's role with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and that the first chapter of the NAACP in Albemarle was established at Piedmont Baptist! We need to see that further research is done on it and its members who are now aspiring and prominent individuals scattered across the U.S., as I learned at Walter's grand funeral of 500+, graciously hosted br Crozet Baptist Church. If I have ever seen a more ecumenical gesture in my life, it was the whole community's response to the tragic fire. I grew up in a church that burned three times in its history - and like the Piedmont Congregation, I recall that my entire family was always consumed with those arduous rebuilding endeavors. I look forward to attending Piedmont Appreciation Day...and appreciation to the Crozet Gazette and all you do for this area!

Hello Crozet,
Shortly after 3/11/11 I assembled a Go bag for the reasons mentioned in this article. Ours is kept by the front door, ready to go if we have to evacuate or to survive for a short time outside the nearest U. S. military base. I rode out the Great Tohoku Earthquake a year ago and like you was very concerned about the nuclear facilities around us as well as the other natural forces that came into play then. My preparations are a feeble attempt at preparing to meet the effects of the overwhelming forces of man and nature but I have taken some positive action. I sleep much better now.

In days passed, many in the local population utilized the skills that Mr. Becerra has honed. God bless him and the others who labor to keep our orchard heritage alive and thriving!
Thank you, Crozet Gazette, for reminding us of our agricultural roots.
