Peachtree Opening Day

Former major-leaguer Don Wright, the first Peachtree League player ever to be drafted, gave a pep talk to the boys and girls on the 2009 season’s 29 teams as the league opened play March 21. Wright told the players to play hard and hustle, to be good sports, to be nice and to have fun. Wright also made the first pitch of the season, a toss that split the strike zone with ceremonial dignity. Each player stepped forward and doffed his cap to the crowd as the team rosters were announced.

  1. Don Wright is an excellent community role model to young and old alike in the western Albemarle area. Kudos to Peachtree Baseball for choosing to honor Mr. Wright and a tip-o’-the-hat to The Crozet Gazette for covering the event. Play Ball!
