Crozet’s Nick Little has been tabbed as the amateur golfer of the year for 2008 by the  Central Virginia Golfers’ Periodical. Little said the honor ranks “pretty high up there, but in a different way.”

After Little won several local tournaments in 2008 and captured the Battle Trophy, the CVGP felt Nick deserved the Amateur Golfer of the Year title. The Battle Trophy is awarded according to a point system that accumulates in local tournaments throughout the year (equivalent to a NASCAR champion winning the Nextel Cup championship).

Little is in his fifth year at Radford University, where he was an NCAA golfer. Since  completing his eligibility in 2008, he has been acting as an assistant coach for the Radford golf team. He will be playing in two amateur qualifying events this spring, one in South Carolina and the other in Charlotte. He hopes to squeeze in a couple of local tournaments (Kendridge and Greene Hills ) into his schedule this spring, as he plans for graduation.
