Old Trail Swim Club, a sleek 8-lane, 230,000-gallon pool with a diving area and a ramp, or “beach,” entry, opened July 17 just west of the Old Trail Village shops. The 11-feet-deep diving area has a one-meter diving board. On a ledge sitting area along on the wall of the ramp entry are five jacuzzi jets. Adjoining the main pool is an baby pool for children under age five that also has ramp entry and three fountains. Three Japanese maples and three willow oaks promise to provide a little shade around the edges someday.

The pool house has men’s and women’s bathrooms (with showers and baby-changing tables in each), a storage area and a lifeguard office. A concession area will open next year.

Douglas Aquatics of Richmond is handling the management and personnel needs. The pool will not be covered over the winter, according to project manager Jeff Hash of Beights Construction. Water sanitation is chlorine-based. Two lifeguards are on duty at all times the pool is open. Regular pool rules are enforced.

Hash said the Swim Club is hoping to organize a swim team to compete in the Jefferson Swim League. The pool has regulation 25-meter lanes.

Membership is open to Old Trail residents (Family, $250; 2 people, $200; 1 person, $150) and Old Trail Golf members (Family, $200; 2 people, $150; 1 person, $100). Non-residents can join the pool through Old Trail Golf Plus! Memberships (Family, $400; 2 people, $300; 1 person, $250), which include unlimited swim time, five guest passes for swimming, and an 8-pack of greens fees (worth more than $320).
