Police Checkpoint in Crozet Nets Drunk Drivers


Albemarle County Police set up a sobriety checkpoint on Rockfish Gap Turnpike at the entrance to Western Albemarle High School August 29 at 10:30 p.m. and made three DUI arrests in the next three hours.

A total of 190 cars came through the checkpoint before it closed at 1:30 a.m., 20 of which were pulled aside for further screening. Officers issued five summonses for drivers having no operator’s license, one for a driver who was operating outside the provisions of a restricted license, two for expired state inspection and one for an expired registration.

One person was arrested on an outstanding warrant (failure to appear in court). Officers also confiscated drug paraphernalia from a vehicle. Six vehicles were towed from the checkpoint site.
