How can we make our interior spaces both comfortable and interesting? What if the things we like don’t fit design “rules”? What if we don’t want to cover our windows? These and many other topics were discussed at the Crozet Library Soiree Series Oct. 21. The evening featured interior designer Tamara Lacy and her colleague Nancy Wardle, who used many examples of room design to demonstrate ways to use colors, lighting, and furnishing styles to emphasize different aspects of rooms.

Lacy drew on her background in psychology to encourage interior design ideas to be personal. Break the “rules” to give yourself permission to like what you like. The audience was encouraged to voice opinions about the examples presented, and it was clear that responses to interior design features are very individual. The evening was entertaining, and thought-provoking as well. Lacy and Wardle are with Interior Concepts, LLC, and have extensive experience working with both home and professional settings.

The Crozet Soiree Series will continue on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m., when local artist Frederick Williamson, who has been featured in publications such as “O, Appalachia: Artists of the Southern Mountains,” will discuss wood and woodworking. Mr. Williamson’s wooden bowls, vases and vessels are known throughout the country for their beauty, delicacy and design.
