Wayne Clark of Crozet, who organized the Apples for Appalachia food drive two years ago to send surplus apples from Crozet’s harvest to the needy in Southwest and Southside Virginia, is being joined by his friend Clyde McAllister of White Hall in a cider-pressing campaign to raise money to buy and transport apples and other food items before Christmas. Clark and McAllister will be at Henley’s Orchard, on White Hall Road north of Crozet, until Dec. 15 offering fresh-pressed cider for $12 per gallon. Six dollars of that goes to buy the apples to be pressed and six to buy the apples to be sent to churches in Southwest and Southside that will organize food distribution in their locales. Clark asked customers to bring jugs. Cash donations are also welcome. He said the distribution of apples is set for Dec. 23.
