Western Albemarle sophomores Cabell Williams, Ally Slechta and Hampton Leonard got advice about fashion and living from Project Runway Season 3 contender Johnathan Kayne when he visited the Old Trail Golf Clubhouse in Crozet Jan. 17 as part of It’s My Prom.

“I’m taking an independent study in fashion design,” said Slechta. “Johnathan Kayne is an inspiration to me. I watched him on the season of Project Runway where he placed in the top 5. This year I’m working on the sketching and illustrating part of fashion design, and I have many sketches. Next year I would really like to take the study again, but go for the building of clothing. Like Kayne, I do lots of dresses and gowns but I also do runway outfits too. I hope someday to become a well known fashion designer.”

Kayne also talked about prom night, Slechta said. “His main message was to have fun with friends and of course look beautiful. He reinforced the idea that prom should be about having a good time and not about drinking alcohol and doing drugs.”
