Mary Wagner, age 94, was named Ms. Mountainside 2010 in a lighthearted pageant at Mountainside Senior Living March 16 in which contestants tried their best not to answer prying questions about their younger romantic life. Josephine Marshall, age 92 and Ms. Mountainside 2009, passed the glittery plastic tiara from her head to Wagner’s and gave her a peck on the cheek. Alice Willis was first runner-up.

White balloons drifted across the floor, giving the dining room a ballroom ambiance for the assisted living facility’s annual beauty pageant for residents.

Wagner said the secret to her win was her use of rouge.

Betty Jane Kent, Don Wright and Betty Fernahough served as judges and deliberated 20 minutes before handing down a list of superlatives—“Sweetest,” “Biggest Flirt,” Miss Congeniality”—for the 19 contenders and finalists.

Before the winner was announced, MSL administrator presented awards and potted hyacinths to MSL volunteers Bevan Cetta and Leslie Reed. Seventy-five residents were on hand for the show.
