2010 Kid Programs

Pages:  A Young Writers’ Group!  For children entering grades 4  – 6.
Meeting the first Thursday of every month at 3:30 p.m.: July 1,  and August 5.
Love to write?  Love to read?  Join the young writers’ workshop! Meet other kids who enjoy writing, get inspired with some fun writing ideas, and bring your stories to share, if you wish. Registration is requested. Drop-ins are welcome.

Stitches:  A Handcraft Group for Ages 8 to 108!
Meeting the last Tuesday of every month at 4:30 PM: June 29,  July 27, and August 31.
Knitters, beaders, stitchers! Bring any project you’re working on and join a fun group of fellow crafters. As you work on your own handwork, we’ll highlight a variety of craft techniques, allowing you to explore and expand your interests and creativity. Registration is requested. Drop-ins are welcome.

Once Upon a Toon:  A Cartooning Workshop!
Monday,  June 21,  2-3 p.m.  For ages 6 – 12.
Cartoonist Joe Wos will inspire and entertain you as he shows you how to create and develop characters. Registration is required.

That Yo-Yo Guy: A Yo-Yo Workshop!
Thursday,  July 15,  3-4 p.m.  For ages 8 and up.
Yo-yo guy Dick Stohr will dazzle you with his world record-setting skills, show you some cool tricks, and explain the science of spin. Registration is required and begins on Thursday, June 24.

Super Summer Reading Wrap-Up and Cookie Countdown!
Tuesday, August 3, 7 p.m. For all ages.
Come to the grand finale of the Summer Reading Program to celebrate all of the super-wonderful reading we did this summer!  You will be able to hang out with your reading friends, find out whether or not we beat last year’s reading record, enjoy some yummy cookies and tap your toes to the beat of the music group Hot Soup.

2010 Family Programs

Family programs will be held at Crozet Elementary School. Space is limited.  Groups of 10 or more, please call ahead to register. No registration is necessary for families. For more information, call 823-4050.

Word Play with Megan Hicks!
Wednesday,  June 30,  10 a.m.   For all ages.
Make a play date with your library for some serious silliness! Megan’s got a way with words! Join her for stories, tongue twisters, riddles, and conundrums designed to send your youngster running off in search of more reading fun.

World Beat with Robert Jospe and Kevin Davis!
Wednesday,  July 7, 10 a.m.  For all ages.
Get down and groove to the beat of this musical mélange of salsa, mambo, calypso, and meringue with musicians Robert Jospe of Inner Rhythm and Kevin Davis of Ban Caribe.

Wildlife Center of Virginia:  Home Sweet Habitat!
Wednesday,  July 14,  10 a.m.  For all ages.
When is an azalea bush home sweet home?  When you’re a bird of course!  Explore how different animals satisfy their needs for food, water, shelter, and space, each finding its own home sweet home. Find out how we can help these animals and keep their habitats safe.

Musings: A Teen Writer’s Workshop
Tuesdays, June 1, July 6,
August 10. 6:30 p.m.
Interested in creative writing? This group is a chance to practice your writing skills, learn new techniques, read what other teen writers are working on, and hear helpful comments about your own writing. Registration is ongoing.  Grades 6-12.

Theatre Games
Thursday, June 24. 2-3:30 p.m.
Don’t let stage fright keep you away!  Presenting an acting workshop with professional actor/student Koda Kerl.  Theatre games, improv, stage combat, and lots more.  You never know when a star will be born! Registration begins Thursday, June 10.  Limited to 20 participants. Grades 6-12.

The Art of Henna
Thursday, July 8. 2-3 p.m.
Experience the ancient art of henna in this hands-on workshop led by Ginny Sieminski of Expressions! Face Painting and Body Art.  You’ll leave with your own temporary design and a kit to take home. Registration begins on Thursday, June 24.  Limited to 10 participants. Grades 6-12.
