Special Collection Days Slated at Ivy Material Utilization Center

A special collection of household hazardous waste will be held at the Ivy Material Utilization Center Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The materials accepted on this day include acids, antifreeze, gasoline, kerosene, motor oil, adhesives, pesticides, household cleaners, floor and furniture polish, paint-related products and solvents, batteries and fluorescent tubes. The next special collection for these items will be held on a date yet-to-be-announced in the spring.

The Ivy center will hold Amnesty Days in November for furniture and mattresses (Nov. 5), appliances (Nov. 12), and tires (Nov. 19) during the hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Amnesty items will be accepted on the assigned days from residents of Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville at no charge.

  1. We are Albemarle County residents and are moving away on March 1st. May we bring dead batteries (small household type) and larger spray cans of rug dry cleaning stuff, etc. to the Recycling Center for disposal? Thank you.
