Kids Programs

Tales for Two!
For 2-year-olds and young 3-year-olds. Thursdays, January 12 – March 1, 9:30 a.m. Registration limited to 15.

This is a fun program of nursery rhymes, songs, stories, and fingerplays designed for 2- to 3-year-olds and an accompanying adult.

Alphabet Soup: A Preschool Story Time!
For older 3-year-olds to 5-year-olds. Thursdays, Jan. 12 – March 1, 10:30 a.m. Registration limited to 15

Enjoy a fun half-hour of stories, songs, flannel board stories, fingerplays, and more! Designed for older 3, 4 and 5-year-olds who are ready to enjoy story time without an accompanying adult or younger siblings.

Stitches:  A Handcraft Group for Ages 8 to 108
Meeting the last Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m.: January 31, February 28, March 27

Knitters, beaders, stitchers! Bring any project you’re working on (or interested in learning) and join this fun group for an hour of handcrafting and sharing. Drop-ins are always welcome!

More Fascinating than Fiction: Stories for the Older Crowd!
Wednesday, January 25 & February 22, 3:30 p.m. For ages 5 to 8.

Listen in as we highlight some incredible stories from history and today. Enjoy an afternoon snack and chat about books you’ve been reading. Registration requested. Drop-ins are welcome.

Gathering for Games!
Monday, January 23, 2 – 3:30 p.m. For ages 7 to 11.

Meet up with your friends at Crozet Library for some gaming fun. We’ll provide the games (Wii included!). If you have a favorite game (board games or for the Wii), bring it along to share.

Registration requested. Drop-ins are welcome!

Crozet Page Turners Read: 11 Birthdays
Saturday, January 14, 1 p.m. For ages 8 to 11.

Stop by the library to get your free copy of 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass. Read it on your own to find out if Amanda can get un-stuck from reliving her eleventh birthday, then join other Crozet Page Turners for an hour of book club discussion. Registration required.

Little House at the Library—A Laura Ingalls Wilder Celebration!
Saturday, February 11, 1 p.m. For ages 8 to 11.

Celebrate American author Laura Ingalls Wilder’s 145th birthday. We’ll take a peek at her life by playing games and exploring activities that Laura and her friends would have experienced when they were your age. Participants are welcome to wear period clothing and bring related items they would like to share.

Registration is required and begins January 23.

Teen Programs

YouTube Video Contest—The Big Read!
Through March 25.

Take part in The Big Read by submitting a video to YouTube about the program and Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima. Judges’ choice and viewers’ choice prizes will be awarded. Submission deadline: Sunday, March 25th.

Musings: A Teen Writer’s Workshop
First Tuesday of the month: January 3, February 7, March 6, 6:30 p.m.

Interested in creative writing? This group is a chance to practice your writing skills, learn new techniques, read what other teen writers are working on, and hear helpful comments about your own writing. Ages 13-18. Drop-ins are always welcome.

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
Tuesdays, January 10, February 21, March 13. 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Be a part of the Crozet Library Teen Advisory Board! Help the librarians plan teen programs, displays, and activities. Members will enjoy yummy snacks and receive volunteer hours for their participation with TAB. It’s your library. Make a difference. Registration recommended. Grades 6-12.

Finger Knitting
Tuesday, Jan. 17. 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Keep your fingers warm this winter with finger knitting! Learn this easy art of knitting and take home a fun project with you. Registration is required. Grades 6-12.

Crozet Teen Book Club
Tuesdays, January 24, March 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Join other teens for an out-of-this-world book club featuring lively discussion, activities, and crafts. Snacks will be served at each meeting. Registration required and free copy of the book is included! Limit: 10 participants. Grades 6-12.

Teen TGIF Nights

Friday nights for teens just got better! Join us at the Crozet Library for our monthly after-hours social gathering. Costumes are always encouraged. Refreshments are always served. Registration required. Grades 6-12.

Titanic Masquerade Ball
Friday, January 27. 7:00-8:30 p.m.

2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s fatal voyage. You’re invited to an evening of dancing, feasting, and intrigue as we learn about the mysteries of the Titanic and commemorate this event. Come dressed in Edwardian style or simply wear a mask!  Registration begins January 6.

Book Crush Party
Tuesday, February 14. 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your favorite literary characters! We’ll play a book speed dating game, book character bingo, and make a valentine craft. Make sure to bring your favorite book with you.

Registration is required. Grades 6-12.

The Future Is In Your Hands—Teen Astrology
Friday, February 17. 7-8:30 p.m.

Get to know your inner cosmic being through an exploration of the zodiac, palmistry, numerology, and more. You’ll also decorate your own pocket shrine filled with personal treasures and artwork that reflects you.

Registration begins January 27.
