The Wayne Theatre in downtown Waynesboro will begin the final phase of its restoration project in mid-September, theater executive director Dr. Clair Myers has announced.

“The choice to move forward immediately is a wonderful one for the Wayne Theatre Alliance and its donors and for the greater community,” says Myers.  “It means that the Valley will have a first-rate, state-of-the-art public space for arts performances, lectures, films, and conferences. It is what the community has been seeking since the Wayne closed in 2000.”

Myers says the organization is confident that the funds in hand will carry the project to the point where the construction loan and the tax credits closings are completed and that the project will be able to continue uninterrupted.

Work will complete the shell of the new Wayne Theatre and build the fly tower, wings, and larger lounge area. It will also include excavation and shoring for the orchestra, installing a new waterline across Main Street, construction of two vaults and any necessary underpinning. Roof repair will also be completed.

Plans are for the theatre to open sometime in 2014.
