Crozet Methodist Offers New Worship Service for Children

Every Sunday since early September, Crozet United Methodist Church has offered an independent worship service for children from 2 1/2 to 5th grade. “Parents drop the children off, then spend a half-hour on their own,” explained director Amy David, the director of music and arts for children and youth. The children are treated to a continental breakfast afterwards. Everyone’s invited to come to the church’s 9:30 contemporary service if they so wish, David said.

“I wanted to provide something for the children that was truly worship,” said David, who modeled the service loosely on Vacation Bible School. She uses song, stories and dance as ways that children can participate in worship, and is considering adding puppetry. “All children are invited, whether their families are church members or not,” David said.
