Winfield “Corky” Schley Figgatt, Jr.

Winfield Schley Figgatt Jr., 88, formerly of Crozet, died at Brookdale Assisted Living in Staunton, on November 27. He was born in Harrisonburg on June 5, 1930, to the late Winfield Schley Figgatt and Nora Virginia Brown Figgatt. He was preceded in death by one sister, Constance Jean Logan. 

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Diane Godfrey Figgatt;  six children, Deborah Sprouse and husband, Lynn, of Harrisonburg, Mike Figgatt, and wife, Carolyn, of Madison Heights, Bret Figgatt and wife, Paula, of Waynesboro, Wendy Marks and husband, Jeff, of Waynesboro, Laurie Roberts and husband, David, of Palmyra, and Patrick Figgatt and wife, Shelly, of Archdale, NC; and thirteen grandchildren: Michelle, Amanda, Taylor, Amberlyn, Amy, Chris, Meredith, Jack, Kelly, Will, Devin, Alex, Kathryn; and nine great-grandchildren: AJ, Ginger, James, Sadie, Andrew, Kowynn, Ember, Scarlett, and Camilla. 

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a star athlete in every sport in high school, softball coach, participated in boys band at Harrisonburg High School, Charlottesville Light Opera Company, Municipal Band of Charlottesville, Harrisonburg Veterans Band, and member of the Crozet Baptist Church.

He was a teacher and band director at Rock Hill Academy. He was employed by R. M. Davis Appliance Company in Charlottesville. He owned Figgatt Sand Company, and two TV stores in Harrisonburg. 

A funeral was held Dec. 1 at Crozet Baptist Church with the Rev. David Collyer officiating.
