James E. Weatherford, 76, of Charlottesville, died on December 16, at the UVA Medical Center, after a short illness. Jim was born March 13, 1942 in Richlands, Virginia to the late Clarence and Frieda Weatherford. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Allen.

Jim graduated from Peterstown High School in Peterstown, WV. He served 3 years in the Army, graduated from Marshall University, and completed his master’s degree at the University of Virginia. He was a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor at several Albemarle County schools during his career. Earlier in his life he enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and cherished time with friends and family. He was a member and past president of the Central Virginia Watercolor Guild. Recently one of his paintings was accepted in the CVWG fall show, and his paintings are currently on display at Piedmont Place in Crozet.

He is survived by his wife, Mic Weatherford, daughter, Bethany Robinson (Tey) of Crozet, son Chris Weatherford (Robyn) of Charlottesville, grandchildren, TJ (Jessica) and Logan Robinson, Zoe and Olivia Weatherford, sisters, Mary Jo Morgan (Ken, deceased), Jean Drescher, Sue Verdua (Javier), and Ann Harris (Bill), and a large extended family, many special friends and colleagues.

Jim was a man who faced some significant hurdles in his life but was able to inspire many by his graceful and courageous spirit. He will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Jim’s life was held at Restoration in Old Trail,  on December 22.
