RVCC Kitchen

The kitchen at Rockfish Valley Community Center is undergoing some major changes. Claudia’s Catering has closed after serving catered meals and sometimes lunch as the exclusive business tenant for twelve years in the RVCC kitchen. While continuing the monthly Pancake Breakfast on the first Saturday is a RVCC priority, the vacant kitchen will be undergoing a major remodel. The plans are not yet complete, but reconstruction is expected and funding contributions are needed.

The Treasure Chest

A change in management at the Treasure Chest Thrift Store has already brought some updates.  Look for Catherine Dunn, the new store manager who has identified a fresh approach to identifying all that the shop offers. In addition to Facebook, now you can follow the Treasure Chest on Instagram for new and interesting finds.  Treasure Chest proceeds support Rockfish Valley Community Center people and programs.

Afton Approvals

The former Anderson’s Grocery site has received the Board of Supervisor’s approval of a Special Use Permit for the multi-residential dwelling and the change to business zoning as requested. Health Department approval was granted and only VDOT approval remains before construction may begin. A date for completion is unknown.

The Afton Depot project has sought different Special Use Permits for the many business entities proposed on Route 151.  The owner, Todd Rath, has stated he will proceed “by right” if his permits are not granted.  The Planning and Zoning Board is currently waiting on a legal opinion by Phil Payne, County Attorney, on whether the permit process can allow an existing building to be used for a “Asian-Fusion” restaurant.
