NCCO Performs Beethoven
The sounds of Beethoven, Bizet and Bond came to the Rockfish Valley on May 19 courtesy of the Nelson County Community Orchestra. Thirty musicians were conducted by Michael Tyree, who has been with the volunteer orchestra for the past two years.
The concert began with Beethoven Symphony Number 1 and featured student players performing Number 9. Bizet’s Carmen Suite No. 1 in four parts featured Mezzo-Soprano vocalist Sydney Ford. Lastly, theme music from four well-known 007 films ended the performance with an arrangement by Calvin Custer.
The Nelson County Community Orchestra (NCCO) started in January 2014 with Phillip Clark, conducting, under the name, Rockfish Valley Community Orchestra, in a 501(c)3 partnership with Rockfish Valley Community Center. Local musicians of all skill levels, especially those returning to music after a long time and adult beginners who had not played in a group, were invited to begin practicing and playing together. Now rehearsals take place weekly on Mondays at 7 p.m. at Rockfish Presbyterian Church in Nellysford. New members are welcome to join at any time.
In addition to its three annual free public concerts, NCCO provides additional programs. For more information, visit their website nelsoncco.org.
