Albemarle High School Class of 1959 will celebrate their 60th class reunion on September 7, 2019 at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church, 674 Woodlands Road, at 11 a.m.
In 1955 these students left schools—some of which have since closed such as Greenwood, Batesville and the (old) Crozet—and entered the eighth grade at Albemarle High School. They were welcomed by their beloved principal, Mr. Ben Hurt. For weeks they wandered throughout the “big” school that was shaped like an A, trying to find their classes. Throughout the years, some 40-50 students have had mini reunions reminiscing about their years at the school, and each year Mr. and Mrs. Hurt attended. In the 1955 PEER the dedication reads: “It is with great pleasure that we dedicate the 1955 PEER to our principal, Mr. Ben F. Hurt, whose consideration for others, calmness of manner, love for young people, untiring devotion to duty, and strong Christian character have endeared him to every student and faculty member at Albemarle High School.” Check the Albemarle High School Alumni site for additional information.
