Trager Brothers Coffee (TBC) Roastery has been a welcome addition to Nelson County for over a decade. In 2014, Rockfish Valley Community Center welcomed TBC to remodel the former Hamner Theatre space into a coffee shop complete with a large roaster. As of September 21, the original location in Lovingston, known as TBC 1.0, has now merged with TBC 2.0 at Rockfish Valley Community Center (RVCC). Additional space at RVCC was acquired for business operations that include packaging retail coffee sales.

Family-owned and operated TBC Coffee is a partnership of brothers Will and Joe Trager, who hail from Seattle and arrived in Charlottesville in 2007. The popular business is a local source of small-batch, organic, hand-roasted coffee from farms identified as fair-wage and environmentally sustainable.

Since starting in Lovingston, the business has had an ongoing issue sharing a driveway with a neighbor that was escalating beyond acceptable. Ending the dispute and expanding the business by moving the operation entirely to Afton was a positive resolution.

“We have outgrown our original home and are now expanding our existing footprint,” Will Trager said.
