The Virginia Press Association announced the awards for its 2020 News and Advertising Contest, and the Crozet Gazette won a total of five prizes across several categories. As a monthly newspaper, the Gazette competes in the “Specialty” division alongside much larger publications such as Richmond Magazine and Style Weekly, both over 50,000 in circulation. The awards were announced online in rolling fashion over a four-day span from April 26-29.

Allie Pesch won a Third Place for her advertisement design for Greenwood Gardens in the Home and Garden category, and a First Place for her cello lesson ad design in the Small Space Ads category. This is the third time in the past four years that Allie has won VPA awards for her work.

Lisa Martin won a Third Place in the Health, Science and Environmental Writing category for a portfolio of environmental stories, and two Second Place awards—one for Public Affairs Writing and one for a News Writing portfolio. Lisa’s winning entries included stories about local logging, ticks, agritourism in Afton, and the Second Amendment movement in Virginia.
