To the Editor: No Street Paintings

I would like to comment on your frontpage article in the March edition of the Gazette referencing the so-called colorful mural at the intersection of St. George Avenue and St. George Street.

This project never should have come to fruition for obvious reasons. As pointed out in the article, it was a distraction to drivers and a safety hazard that had to be “clean-up” by VDOT at taxpayers’ expense. I’m sure the masterminds behind it never clearly considered the implications of their actions. In a legal sense, this was vandalism of state property.

For thirty years I served as a state trooper and as a sergeant in the area office. I assure you this would not have happened on my watch.
