God called Randolph L. “Randy” Layman, loving husband, father, and Pop, home to glory at age 77, on July 3, 2022. He was surrounded by loved ones.

Randy was born on June 3, 1945, in Charlottesville, Va., to John and Edith (Nay) Layman. He was a lifetime resident of Batesville, Va., where he was a farmer, businessman and musician and loved his Traditional Country Music.

On December 14, 1968, he married Kathryn Trogdon Layman. They raised their son and many that Randy took under his wings on the farm in Batesville. Randy had a passion for serving his community, woodworking and helping everyone, especially his nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, John; his mother, Edith; his older brothers, John T. and Scott Layman; and his half-brother and sisters, William Layman, Barbara Layman Slaughter, and Mary Elizabeth Layman Snead.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy; his son, TD and wife, Michelle; grandsons, Camden Randolph and Zachary Richard Layman; brother, Robert Layman and wife, Liz, of Batesville, and their children, Jenny and John Layman; sister, Nancy Jo Truslow of Ohio; two very special nieces, Sharon Layman Dwyer of South Carolina, and Lynda Layman Gevers of Indiana, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Randy treasured his family and friends and always provided for anyone in need.

There will be no formal service at Randy’s request. A celebration of Randy’s life will be held 5 p.m. on September 18, 2022, at the Rockfish Fire Dept, 1110 Rockfish Valley Hwy., Afton, VA 22920, a time to share and support each other in friendship, family, food and music.

In lieu of flowers, donations and memorial contributions may be made to the North Garden Fire Department, P.O. Box 33, North Garden, VA 22959, The Hospice of Piedmont, or help someone who may be in need. Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you.”
