Thomas Charles Shuman, 76, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at his Albemarle County home of 37 years.
Tom (“TC”) was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 4, 1946 to John C. and Margaret Morgan Shuman. He spent his early years in Philadelphia and enjoyed summers in Ocean City, New Jersey. Tom graduated from high school in Summit, New Jersey and attended college at Gardner Webb University and Old Dominion University. An avid baseball player and fan, Tom pitched for his high school and college baseball teams.
A devoted follower of Jesus, he committed his to life to God and never missed an opportunity to share his faith with others. He spent many evenings in the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail with the Good News Ministry. Tom was very active in his church community and served as a deacon for several years.
He had a love for the outdoors and a penchant for practical jokes. Tom loved to travel with his family. Although he didn’t speak any other languages fluently, he laughed with people from all over the world.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John C. Shuman, Jr., his sister, Carolyn Shuman Beumer, his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Donald Grogan, and two nephews, Keith Given and John C. Shuman, III.
Tom leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Eileen Grogan Shuman, his daughters whom he deeply treasured, Emily (Andrew) Bessell and Michelle (Christopher) Koch. He was a hilarious and loving Pop/Popinator to Ryan, Hannah, Everett and Henry. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and family members.

A memorial service is planned for February 25, 2023 and details will be forthcoming.
