Batesville Community Auction to Support Ukraine Relief
May 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The small but generous Batesville community plans a reception and an auction of a mural by local artist David Cochrane. The May 17 auction is a fund-raiser for Ukraine and will include a reception with refreshments and live music on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. Cochrane’s 12-foot mural “Painting for Ukraine,” is based on his interpretation of Picasso’s “Guernica,” inspired by the Spanish Civil War.
The ambitious work will be auctioned at the Vault in the old Bank of America building, beginning at 6 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Vault Virginia, WTJU 91.1 FM, Red Light Management, and the Batesville Market. The effort also includes a limited-edition digital print in the form of an NFT (non-fungible token) release that will take advantage of the current Blockchain technology.
The Batesville area has galvanized in its effort to mount a humanitarian response to the armed conflict in Ukraine and the suffering of the Ukrainians under Russian assault. In April dozens of local musicians held an outdoor benefit concert that brought more than 300 people together, raising $16,000 to benefit the victims of the Ukraine conflict. This effort took less than three weeks from concept to event.
Proceeds will benefit two highly-rated charities for Ukraine: Global Giving and World Central Kitchen. The event will be ticketed, and donations will be accepted for these charities.
The Batesville community invites everyone to support this effort on behalf of the victims of the conflict in Ukraine.
