MAPS is proud to announce, “Capturing the Color,” a judged Pastel Exhibit at The Center at Belvedere from September 2 through October 27. An awards reception will be held on October 20 from 4pm-6pm.
The Judge for the exhibit is Nancie King Mertz, PSA-MP, CPP-MP, IAPS-EP, an award-winning Master & Eminent Pastelist who paints in both pastel and oils. Nancie has traveled and taught around the world, but Chicago is her favorite city to paint, and the city has twice awarded her “Artist of the Year.”
The paintings featured in this exhibit are primarily soft pastels, the same dry pigment used for oil and watercolor paints, mixed with a binder, and pressed into a stick that is used to draw on textured or sanded paper. Pastels have a richness of color that is both brilliant and subtle. Paintings include landscapes, still life, portrait, animals, and non-representational subjects.
The MidAtlantic Pastel Society (MAPS) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and greater understanding of pastels as a fine art medium.
