Cavalier Robotics: Recruitment Open House

FIRST Robotics Competition Team 619– Cavalier Robotics – is looking for high school students and adults with diverse talents to be part of this season’s robot build and competitions.
Two open houses will be held for interested students, parents, and mentors on Sunday, August 26 and Sunday, September 9, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the robotics lab located at 675 Old Reservoir Rd. (off McCormick Rd), University of Virginia.
Students interested in designing, building, and programming will enjoy this team, but also needed are students interested in business and communications to promote the team and organize outreach activities. All skill levels are welcomed and needed. Students should be prepared to have the hardest fun they’ll ever have!
Adults and college students are needed as mentors to coach students, and businesses are encouraged to become team sponsors.
Off-season sessions will be held on Sundays afternoons from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the lab. These sessions involve students honing their skills, strategizing, learning new technology, and participating in off-season events. The robot building, competition season, is scheduled to kick-off first Saturday in January with completion in March. During the six build weeks, lab hours increase to meeting several times during the week from 6:00 p.m – 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Then District and Regional competition events start in March and continue through April. Qualifying teams are invited to FIRST Championship at the end of April.
The team will use creativity and ingenuity to build a robot that responds to remote commands and carries out tasks based on this season’s FIRST Robotic guidelines within an environment that encourages “gracious professionalism.”
