How is art a medium for mindfulness? How can creative practices help you cultivate self-awareness, calm your mind, and heal from stress?
In this special VIRTUAL workshop author & artist Laura Lee Gulledge shares how mindfulness plays a vital role in her life as an artist… and how her creative itself can be a contemplative practice. Participants then will try out a handful of her favorite practices utilizing materials they already have at home which will include art making, written reflection, meditation, and expressive ritual. Open minds of all walks of life are welcome!
Participants will need a few sheets of drawing paper and markers, plus optional colored pencils, pastels, or watercolors if they’re feeling inspired.
LAURA LEE GULLEDGE is an Eisner Award nominated author and illustrator of YA graphic novelsPage by Paige, Will & Whit, and The Dark Matter of Mona Starr (2020, Abrams Books) as well as the interactive book of Sketchbook Dares: 24 Ways to Draw Out Your Inner Artist. Laura Lee is a passionate teaching artist with an MA in Art Education from James Madison University who currently teaches through the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Virginia Commission of the Arts, and The Fralin Museum of Art. Laura Lee is also a comics journalist, interactive event producer, musical librettist, contemplative dancer, and advocate of Artner Love. Currently she lives in Charlottesville, Virginia with her cat Rory where she posts new art & adventures weekly online at whoislauralee.com.
