Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary is holding its fifth-annual Wildlife Photo Contest to further its mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wild animals in central Virginia. All local photographers — amateur and professional — are invited to enter photos of Virginia wildlife and landscapes. A $20 per photo suggested donation will go directly to Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary.
Contestants should bring their 8×10” print(s) to The Great Frame Up, the contest’s sponsor, at 1860 Rio Hill Center, during the month of August. An online entry form with digital photo entry will also be available through the Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary website, https://www.rockfishwildlifesanctuary.org All entries will be judged, and twelve finalists’ photos will illustrate a 2019 Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary calendar.
The entry period for The Wildlife Photo Contest runs through August 31. All entries will be professionally matted and will be on display in September at The Great Frame Up. Finalists will be announced at a Reception on Saturday, September 29, from 5:30-7:30, at The Great Frame Up. The public is invited to view all the photos and learn more about the Sanctuary’s work. There will also be a “People’s Choice Award” selected by those who attend the Reception.
Founded in 2004, Rockfish Wildlife Sanctuary is staffed by three licensed wildlife rehabilitators and 35 volunteers, who care for over 700 mammals, birds, and reptiles each year.
