Meet our June Artisan of the Month: Encaustic painter Giselle Gautreau. Giselle will be at the Barn Saturday, June 8 from 2-4pm to demonstrate encaustic painting technique. Giselle’s paintings have a transient, dreamlike quality to them, like snapshots capturing an elusive moment in time.
Encaustic painting is an ancient technique from Greece, coming from the Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in” (enkaustikos). Heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and damar resin to fusing the layers of wax.
The demonstration is a part of Second Saturday Crozet, an event organized by several Crozet-area art venues, including the Barn Swallow. Join us each month for art events that explore, teach, demonstrate, introduce, inspire, and celebrate the wonder of art and the bounty of talented artists in our area.
