At 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, the Piedmont Master Gardeners will present an online lecture by Barbara Ryan on “The New Sustainable Garden: Designing With Native Plants.” Admission is $10, and registration to receive the Zoom link begins in mid-February at https://piedmontmastergardeners.org/events/. Ryan is the founder and owner of Chain Bridge Native Landscapes LLC in McLean, Va. In her lecture, she will discuss the roles that native plant communities and layering play in designing effective native gardens that improve biodiversity and sustainability while offering natural beauty throughout the year. Ryan holds a master’s degree in sustainable landscape design from The George Washington University and is a certified Virginia Horticulturist, a Level 2 Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional, and a Fairfax Master Naturalist.
